The Department of Veterans Affairs defines a vet as a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released under honorable conditions. The term veteran comes from the Latin Vetus, which means “old”. Many countries offer these veterans some form of compensation, acknowledging their sacrifice in fighting for and defending their country. Veterans of the U.S. Navy have many benefits available to them from education to health, job assistance, home loans and more. These benefits are available from the U.S. and state government offices. The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs oversees many of these military programs and provides advice and contact information to other groups.
Gaining access to Navy benefits may be difficult and hard to find so patience and research is required. State benefits, if available, vary from job assistance to none at all. The best place to find out if your state offers benefits is to access their official website if possible.
Sometime, the benefits afforded to you may be a difficult to get to or you may not get the assistance you deserve. If your local VA office is unable to assist you, you may consider contacting your Congressperson for additional assistance. They may be able to get the result you need to get the benefits you earned. For the most part, our VA offices have improved their services. In our Navy Veterans Forum, we have categories and topics that may also assist you if you have any questions or want to share some news or events related to vets. Feel free to join the forum and participate. It is there for us. Thank you for serving our country! |
